SC Lede: Midterm Madness MiniPod

A.T. Shire/SC Public Radio

The midterms have come and gone and the South Carolina Lede breaks down the results just minutes after they were announced on election night 2018.

Host Gavin Jackson recaps the action from the state Republican watch party with reporters Jamie Lovegrove with The Post and Courier and Meg Kinnard with The Associated Press.

Gov. Henry McMaster was elected to his first full term as governor with running mate Pamela Evette, who becomes the state’s first female Republican lieutenant governor. Republicans swept the state constitutional offices and U.S. House incumbents hung onto their seats, with the state Sen. William Timmons replacing outgoing 4th Congressional District Rep. Trey Gowdy.

The only undecided race, as of our taping, was the 1st Congressional District race between Republican state Rep. Katie Arrington and Democrat Joe Cunningham. Cunningham was declared the winner when the race was called the morning of Wednesday, November 7. Arrington had defeated Rep. Mark Sanford outright in the June primary.
